[Switzerland] The scariest bar in the World – with “Alien” movie decorations
We are not sure, that after visiting this bar, in a medieval town of Gruyères in Switzerland – you will sleep calmly. Fantasy is a tricky thing and spending evening in a company of aliens can be one of the reasons for a sleepless night. On the other hand, if you love stories about other galaxies or just extreme things – that’s a perfect place. Interior of the bar is based on the epic movie “Alien” (1979).
Gruyères – sweet little mountain village has one unexpected attraction. Swiss artist’s H.R. Giger museum and bar. In 1980 he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for his participation in the film „Alien“ (by Ridley Scot).
The museum is located in St-Germain castle. It contains the biggest existing collection of the works of H.R. Giger: paintings, sculptures, furnishings, film sets. The museum bar, next to the museum, is also designed like the alien spaceship.
The H.R. Giger Museum bar in Gruyeres, which Giger built much of himself, is a sculptural experience of white fossilized skeletal alien innards, crossing vertebrae arches over skeletal plate “Dune” inspired “Harkonnen” bar chairs, of boney spinal cord backs much like the world of that mummified giant space pilot now long vanished in black smoke. The design seems melded to the ancient castle walls with nooks of baby heads looking out on the tourist village outside.
The bar is open year-round, but visitors may want to call ahead first. More information: http://www.hrgiger.com/barmuseum.htm.
